Educational motivation is conditioned by the current educational needs, goal-oriented, worldview attitudes of the subject of educational activity, his personal orientation and a number of conditions for the organization of the learning process. The current situation actualizes the problem of studying the structure of educational motivation of students, in particular, in the first and third years, and the search for didactic approaches, active and interactive teaching methods that ensure the development of this phenomenon. In the 2023-2024 academic year at the Faculty of Clinical Psychology at the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University, senior students organized a study that involved studying the structure and hierarchy of motives for the educational activity of first- and third-year students. Purpose. To study the structure and hierarchy of motives of educational activity of students of the first and third years. Materials and methods. The study participants were 60 students of the Faculty of Clinical Psychology, the average age was 20.16±1.05 years. The respondents of the study were 30 first-year students and 30 third-year students, they signed a consent to participate in diagnostic procedures. The administration of the Faculty of Clinical Psychology received permission from the Local Ethics Committee of the St. Petersburg State Pediatric Medical University to conduct the study. The methods of empirical research included: the psychodiagnostic method (the method of studying the motivation of learning at the university by T.I. Ilyina, the method of diagnosing the socio-psychological attitudes of the individual in the motivational-need sphere by O.F. Potemkina, the method of studying the motivation of educational activity by A.A. Rean and V.A. Yakunin modified by N.Ts. Badmaeva) and the mathematical-statistical method: comparative analysis with the nonparametric Mann-Whitney test. The results were processed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 27 software package. Results. The study made it possible to identify the prevailing motives for learning in students of the first and third years, the dynamics of changes in internal learning motivation in the first and third years. Along with this, it was possible to determine the level of expression of the respondents' socio-psychological attitudes of the individual and the role of professional motives in educational activity. Based on the results obtained, methodological recommendations for the teaching staff were developed, contributing to the development of educational motivation. Conclusion. The results obtained prove that there are no differences in the structure of the motivational sphere of educational activity among students of the first and third years, internal educational motivation does not decrease with the transition to the senior year and prevails over external motivation among students of different courses, there is no tendency for respondents to increase the role of professional motives. All of the above serves as the basis for the development of methodological recommendations for the teaching staff for the development of the role of professional motives in the educational and cognitive activity of students.
