Description
Summary:The development of Kapalo Banda ecotourism in Limau Manis Village, Padang, has the potential to be developed as agro-ecotourism by involving multiple stakeholders. The highlights include river streams, agricultural cultivation, and the cultivation of stingless bees as supporting elements for environmental sustainability and the local economy. With high vegetation diversity, the potential for stingless bee (galo-galo) cultivation as a creative economic initiative offers new opportunities. This program aligns with the West Sumatra Provincial Government's efforts to establish the region as a honey production center. However, challenges such as the low production of bee colonies due to a lack of knowledge in cultivation techniques and the availability of flowering feed have hindered development. Through community service, empowerment activities are carried out from June to September 2024, including socialization, demonstrations, and training on bee cultivation techniques, supported by an expert team. Education is focused on the potential of galo-galo and strategies for marketing local products. Additionally, training for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and honey product exhibitions have successfully raised community awareness and increased the competitiveness of local products. The results of this program show an improvement in the skills and knowledge of the community, supporting the sustainability of the local economy, and preserving biodiversity. Kapalo Banda partners have the potential to become a model for community empowerment based on natural resources, successfully improving community welfare. The involvement of multiple stakeholders in supporting the development of Kapalo Banda Ecotourism has led to a series of activities, from cultivation preparation, colony propagation techniques, harvest preparation, to downstream processing and product marketing.
