Description
Summary:In this article we aim to study social representations about the work and the insertion in the labor market elaborated by adolescents. SergeMoscovici's Social Representation Theory was applied to characterize cognitive elements, beliefs, values, and attitudes organization as a practical knowledge, common sense knowledge about reality. The research was based on 30 interviews with 16 to 18 years old adolescents enrolled in a course on labor market offered by a Non-governmental organization, in São Paulo State, Brazil. An automatic content analysis, using software ALCESTE©, showed three discourse classes: Professional life; Work, leisure, and family; and Personal project. The analysis of "Professional life" class, subject of this article, shows the belief in work as a way to self-esteem improvement in present and new perspectives for the future. This indicates a social representation anchoring in categories that are largely distributed in society.
