description This study focuses on the tweets of women politicians in France and Italy in order to analyze how they represent themselves as women and elected representatives. The authors take stock of their activities on Twitter when they are campaigning and then once they are elected to the European Parliament to understand the role played by cultural differences between the two countries and the influence of institutions on women’s politics. The authors have compiled two corpora: one that includes every tweet by the 46 female candidates in France and Italy who were elected to the European Parliament in 2014, and another that includes all the tweets they sent out during a one-month period (February 2016) during their terms in office.
