| Summary: | This study is an exploratory research into the training of students in beauty culture at the secondary, tertiary and informal sector in Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis. Beauty culture encompasses styles, products and people associated with beauty and the focus on physical appearance and aesthetics. Even though it is an essential part of the people and culture, beauty culture is taught as a minor course in the formal education sector. Most of the training in beauty culture is informal. The research design for the study is descriptive and observation survey. Observation guide, structured interview guide and questionnaire were the instruments used for collecting the data. In all one hundred respondents were randomly selected from the Department of Fashion Design and Technology, Takoradi Technical University and some selected Senior High Schools who offer Home Economics. Hairdressers, make-up artist and facial therapist, as well as tutors in the informal sector, were also sampled. The study identified that there are more job opportunities that beauty culture offers such as cosmetology, nail artistry, beauty therapy, massage therapy and several others. And suggests that when beauty culture is enhanced as a course could be an area that the youth will be trained to help reduce the high unemployment. It further recommends that the TVET and all other curriculum planners should be given the needed support to research and develop beauty culture as a progressive vocational course at all levels of education in Ghana.
