Risk factors for early diabetes nephropathy and carotid atherosclerosis

| Summary: | Objective To investigate the atherosclerosis(AS) in patients with early diabetes nephropathy(DN) and analyze the related factors. Methods 120 early DN patients from January 2011 to December 2014 in our hospital outpatient and ward were enrolled as observation group, and 120 cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) served as control group. The AS changes were observed. The observation group was further divided into two subgroups:AS(n = 64) or non-AS(n = 56).Fasting blood glucose(FBG),three acids glyceride(TG),total cholesterol(TC),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),urinary protein excretion rate(UAER),and uric acid(UA) were determined 12 h after fasting in both two groups.Blood pressure, height, weight and body mass index(BMI) were measured.Color Doppler sonography was used for examining carotid arterial intima-media thickness(IMT),and the detection rate of atherosclerotic plaques. Results Carotid thickness and carotid atherosclerosis rate in observation group were significantly increased as compared with those in control group. Also there was significant difference in terms of BMI,FBG,TG,LDL-C and systolic blood pressure between early DN AS subgroup and early DN non-AS subgroup. Conclusions Early DN is prone to have AS comparing to T2 DM.BMI,blood pressure,FBG,TG,LDL-C,UAER and UA would be the potential risk factors for AS found in early DN patients. |
