| Summary: | BR-163 (Cuiabá-Santarém), a road axis in the Brazilian Amazon, was built as a strategic part of a geopolitics focused on integration and occupation, with the insertion of agro-industrial activities and distribution to the foreign market. The problem addressed is the dynamics of occupation in the zone of influence of BR-163, which presents changes in the landscape based on deforestation and the use of fire to convert land use. The objective of this work was to prepare a mapping of the risk of burning and forest fires in the zone of influence of BR-163 in the section that corresponds to Pará for the year 2021. To this end, geoprocessing and environmental modeling were used by using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The results indicate that the BR-163 highway is an axis for inducing deforestation and the use of fire to convert forest areas into productive areas, especially through the cultivation of pastures for cattle raising. Furthermore, the areas most at risk from imminent burning are recently deforested areas. Field activities were carried out to reconnoitre the region, both from the air and on land, where the advance of deforestation in private and public areas was observed. |
