Description
Summary:This short text attempts to delineate the outlines of the "inscape" linked with what Bonnefoy calls the Hinterland. Lawrence Durrell’s peculiar art of landscape and mindscape painting creates both a new calligraphy of particular places which resonate with still unknown inner regions and interrogates the density of the spaces one inhabits and which inhabit us. With his own words he explores those significant heraldic spaces with a kind of ideogramatic brushstroke. The genius/spirit of the place he is famous for is to be understood both as a real topographic item fraught with a symbolic aura and as the art of rendering the special quality of that place.
