description This article focuses on a diverse ownvoice memoirs and novels for young people featuring human diversity through their protagonist. It sets out to show the richness of such works, whose authors are themselves disabled. First, childhood narratives are discussed, a major form in this production. Proceeding from a “‘figural anthropology’ of the self” (F. Lionnet), these works arouse the immediate emotional investment of the reader. Secondly, are examined texts with a higher fictional density: detective novels, fantasy and science fiction, more restrictive genres that may seem an obstacle to welcoming elaborate characters, not reducible to stereotypes. Besides the fact that these works are presented as “response[s] – indeed, retort[s] – to the traditional misrepresentation of disability in Western culture” (Th. Couser), frequenting them enriches the reader who capitalizes on a new knowledge through the vicarious experiences they offered him.
