| Summary: | Abstract Migrasomes are a newly discovered type of organelle, typically located at the tips or intersections of retraction fibers, containing vesicles of various sizes and numbers. During cell migration, migrasomes expand in size, are accompanied by the rupture of retraction fibers, and eventually enter the intercellular space or are absorbed by neighboring cells. Increasing research has shown that migrasomes play crucial roles in cellular growth and development, including maintaining intracellular homeostasis and facilitating intercellular communication. This review focuses on the biogenesis, functions, and pathological roles of migrasomes, while also exploring their future research prospects. As a novel mechanism of intercellular communication, migrasomes hold immense potential for therapeutic applications. A deeper understanding of how to leverage their physiological functions for disease diagnosis and treatment will be a critical focus of future investigations. |
