Description
Summary:two brown interspecific hybrids Z08B × H08B, H08B × Z08B, one intraspecific hybrid Z08B × L08B and their brown parent Z08B (CK) were used as plant materials to measure several photosynthetic indexes, such as leaf chlorophyll a and b content, Hill reaction activity, net photosynthesis rate and carbohydrate contents at seedling, squaring, early flowering, middle flowering, late flowering, and boll opening stages, and the yield and fiber quality. The result showed that the seed cotton yield and lint yield in the three hybrids were all significantly higher than CK, and average increased by 46.71% and 38.57%, respectively. The fiber quality traits of the three hybrids were also much better than CK, and especially the two interspecific hybrids, their fiber length and strength increased 7.59 mm and 5.96 cN·tex-1 by 35.53% and 23.51% more than CK, respectively. Compared with the brown parent, the leaf of the brown hybrids had a higher chlorophyll content, a stronger Hill reaction activity and more starch content, which indicated a higher net photosynthesis rate than CK and more sufficient metabolism substrate supply. These might be the physiological reasons for the higher yield and better fiber quality traits in brown-colored hybrid cotton.
