description Summary : In this article we will focus on the concept of neutrality as it unfolds within the specific context of Northern Ireland as a post-conflict society made up of antagonistic positions. Neutrality in this context needs to be thought of as a process which aim is to ensure the functioning of society at large. On the one hand neutrality can be better understood as set of practices of neutralisation enacted and regularly at stake within the public and private spheres. On the other hand, Culture as a field for political confrontation has been gaining importance within northern irish society. We will focus here on the traditional protestant marching band scene as it negotiates neutrality in the public sphere while pursuing music thought of as an art, proclaimed and/or practiced, with neutralising capacities.
