| Summary: | This study presents the results comparing the effectiveness of sludge stabilization from an municipal wastewater treatment system blended with wood chips of Khaya senegalensis tree under aerobic conditions using a rotating drum composter. The experiment was conducted with two models: one with new wood chips (MH1) and the other with reused wood chips (MH2). Bio-chemical parameters such as temperature, humidity, ash content, pH, TDS, and TOC were continuously monitored to evaluate the sludge stabilization process in both models. The formation of microorganisms during the aerobic biochemical stages of sludge in the two models was also examined and assessed. Comparisons of the monitoring parameter responses and sludge decomposition efficiency by organic matter revealed that the rotating drum composter using recycled bulking agents was more effective than the model using new bulking agents. Sensory indicators such as particle size, color, odor, and self-heating ability after the experiment indicated that the sludge was stabilized. The process dynamics, organic matter transformation, microbial growth efficiency, and the study’s findings underscored the potential for using recycled bulking agents in the aerobic stabilization of sludge from municipal wastewater treatment systems. |
