Description
Summary:Introduction: Experience in the field of population-based child maltreatment prevention programs is extensive; however, scientific effectiveness applies to only a few. The Society for Prevention Research and the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare lead the qualification of these interventions. Objective: To analyze the evidence of collective child maltreatment prevention programs with emphasis on the Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) as an option for implementation in kindergarten in Colombia. Methodology: MEDLINE, PubMed, Elsevier, and LILACS were reviewed using MeSH terms "Child Abuse", "Child Maltreatment", "Parenting Education", "Prevention", and "Program Evaluation". The search yielded 2413 results, and 76 articles were incorporated into the analysis of preventive maltreatment programs, with a focus on Triple P. Conclusions: Programs with the best evidence include Incredible Years, Early Start, Nurse Family Partnership, Adults and Children Together, and Triple P. The latter has high efficacy and acceptance in diverse cultural settings; its effectiveness has been demonstrated through population trials with good results in distal indicators. Triple P is identified as a good option for reducing child maltreatment through its implementation in early childhood educational institutions in Colombia.
