Description
Summary:ABSTRACT Cyathus berkeleyanus (Tul. & C.Tul.) Lloyd was originally collected by Charles Darwin in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The type material has been lost over the years, and the designation of a new type with a modern description has become necessary. Through an extensive literature review, the illustration present in the Lloyd work was considered as the lectotype of the species. Furthermore, due to the new morphological characters recognized for the genus in recent years, it has also become necessary to delimit an epitype for the species. For this, materials from Brazilian fungi collections were requested on loan and analyzed using the proposed methodology for the group. An updated description, photo plate, taxonomic notes, and geographic distribution of the species are provided.
