Description
Summary:The United States, as a colonial power and with the support of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD) led by Luis Muñoz Marín, used the social sciences to present Puerto Rico as the perfect setting for thinking modernity and industrialization through public policy. Between 1940-1960 the University of Puerto Rico and the Centro de Investigaciones Sociales (CIS) will become showcases for the production and legitimation of United States social science. From testimonies gathered of three key researchers of the time, this article proposes to restore the tensions of practicing social science in Puerto Rico within the colonial period.
