Description
Summary:Since 2016, the SATHMA – Late Antique and Early Medieval Sculpture (4th-10th cent.) – project, initiated by the École du Louvre, the Musée du Louvre, and now carried collectively with the CNRS UMR ArAr and ARTEHIS, has undertaken to relaunch in digital form the Recueil général des monuments sculptés en France pendant le haut Moyen Âge partially published before 1987. The Recueil général documentation held by the Louvre has been digitized and several academic works OCRized between 2017 and 2024. Bolstered in 2022 by two grants – Collex-Persée and Fondation des Sciences du Patrimoine –, the team has designed a database under Heurist, that went online in November 2024. This renewed scientific publication will shed long-term light on the rarely studied Late Antique and Early Medieval sculpture, in all its rich diversity – liturgical, architectural, funerary – and a materiality better contextualized both spatially and temporally.
