Summary:The article presents numerical studies of the effect of transient modes of operation of a fixed pad thrust bearing of a centrifugal or screw compressor. The change in the bearing capacity, maximum lubricant temperature and power losses with a change in the rotational speed of the rotor collar is investigated. A jump in the bearing capacity and power losses in the first seconds of acceleration of the collar and low viscosity of the lubricant at the feed temperature is detected. The change in the bearing capacity of the thrust bearing with simultaneous rotor runout and continuous surge of the centrifugal compressor is studied. The occurrence of some vacuum on the working surface of the pad during stop and continued harmonic axial movement of the collar is noted.
