A Case of a “Voluntary Emasculation” The following paper deals with the National Socialist persecution measure of “voluntary emasculation” in the Reichsgau Tirol und Vorarlberg through the lens of a specific case. It examines the legal legitimization of the procedure, the construction of an alleged necessity by the authorities and Max S. life beyond the act of castration. As will be shown, the intervention was characterized by pressure and coercion.
