Description
Summary:This work intends to analyze the features, representations, and discourses present in the comics of She-Hulk and the political influences of Feminism of the 1980s. Created in the monthly stamp The Savage She-Hulk, in 1980, she suffered a radical representational transformation in the updated monthly series Sensational She-Hulk in 1989. From a mere female replica of the Hulk character to a unique superheroine with a proud and endearing personality, the changes occurred far beyond the transition between the epithets of Savage and Sensational in her monthly title. With the weakening of the women's movements at the end of the 1970s and a renewed conservative uprising, new issues and representations culminated in what Susan Bolotin called post-feminism. Without media visibility and the wear and tear of internal conflicts, the feminist movements tended, at the end of the 1980s, towards a more liberal and individualist philosophical stance, constructing an optimistic and autonomous female representation that served as a mold for the construction of the new She-Hulk. The publications, with certain limitations, were translated and inserted in the Brazilian market from the late 1980s and early 1990s, in a political scenario of re-democratization after the long regime of Military Dictatorship and the rejection of feminist movements in Brazil. The translation and publication of the She-Hulk in Brazil tunes or even cohere with the gender politics through the narratives of the original American product, so the primary sources of the investigation are the Brazilian publications.
