description The common saying according to which « time is money » is only valid for those who have the power to change time into money. For the others, in a situation of economic poverty created by mass unemployment, the saying shall be reversed : « money is time ». Time to hold out for a while, time to gain access to another resource, time to pay off a debt. Based on empirical observation, the paper draws theoretical lessons about the synchronization of social activities in their relation to the disembedding of economic life, as well as on the level of articulation between money and the system of needs.
