Summary:Objective:To systematically review the clinical efficacy of Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture on primary insomnia therapy.Methods:Randomized controlled trials (RCT) about Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture on treating primary insomnia were electronically searched in CNKI, VIP, Wanfang Data, CBM, PubMed and the Cochrane Library. After conducting quality evaluation in accordance with Cochrane Review Handbook 5.1.0, the results of Meta analysis was analysed by RevMan 5.3 software.Results:A total of 12 RCTs involved 724 patients were finally included. The results of Meta-analysis indicated that to improve the effective rate, Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture was better than non-Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture [<italic>RR</italic>=1.20; 95%<italic>CI</italic>(1.13, 1.27); <italic>Z</italic>=6.23, <italic>P</italic>&lt;0.000 01]; to improving the effective cure rate, Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture was better than non-Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture [<italic>RR</italic>=1.71; 95%<italic>CI</italic>(1.33, 2.19); <italic>Z</italic>=4.18, <italic>P</italic>&lt;0.000 1]; to improving the PSQI score, Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture was better than non-Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture [<italic>MD</italic>=-2.05; 95%<italic>CI</italic>(-2.43, -1.66); <italic>Z</italic>=10.31, <italic>P</italic>&lt;0.000 01]; to improving the sleep rate, Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture was better than non-Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture [<italic>MD</italic>=6.09; 95%<italic>CI</italic>(2.32, 9.85); <italic>Z</italic>=3.17, <italic>P</italic>=0.002].Conclusion:Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture has a great advantage compare ith non-Ziwuliuzhu acupuncture in the treatment of primary insomnia, but larger scale and high quality RCTs are needed to verify the aforementioned conclusion.
