Description
Summary:This article examines the question of digital ethos and particularly the complex relationship between ethos and public sphere. Relying on the concept of parrhesia, it develops a theoretical and methodological proposal on the concept of digital parrhesia, transposed and adapted to digital communication apparatuses and mediations. This work explores and applies this research on two case studies: the issue of false consumer reviews as well as false “followers,” and the matter of false citizen movements—astroturfing—on the Web, constructed and manipulated by lobbies that serve brands or specific causes.
