description From a corpus of more than 150 abbatial acts dated before 1330, with unfortunately huge inequalities depending upon the abbot, this study of superscription aims to throw new light on the phenomenon of imitation but also on the individual titles of each abbot. The study indicates a certain freedom during the 11th century, an absence of rules, a large heterogeneity, and after a certain time, the use of codified and uniformed formulas. This outline of abbatial diplomacy is the occasion to recall the introduction of devotional formulas in the superscription, the use of various qualifications of humility, the association of the convent with the abbot, etc.
