description To investigate technology transfers is to enquire into acceptance of the new and how it is dealt with in a living society. Since technology and society are intimately linked, technical innovation can have significant consequences for the functioning, and even the structure, of a human society. Every human group can thus choose from a range of reactions, from rapid absorption to rejection (which is generally tantamount to deferred acceptance). The most instructive period as regards a social reality is the time elapsing between the arrival of the technical novelty and the appropriation of the new technology. Among populations which are neighbours but do not react in the same way to the new, it is the difference in this reaction that provides the deepest insight into the nature and dynamics of these societies.
