description Khalifa Chalabi was a 16th-century poet of classical Turkish literature. Among the biographical works of his time, the only source detailing his biography is Gulshan-i Shuara of the Ahdi of Baghdad. Originally from Tabriz, Khalifa relocated to Qaraamid for unknown reasons and remained in the city for a significant part of his life. This work of Khalifa, who wrote a Layla and Majnun Masnavi in honor of Gazi Iskender Pasha in Qaraamid, was introduced and examined by Agâh Sırrı Levend based on a single manuscript found in his personal library. Additionally, the existence of the Khusrav u Shirin, Yusuf, and Zulaikha masnavis has been reported in Kâtib Chalabi’s bibliographic encyclopedia, Kashf al-Zunun. There is a lack of clarity regarding the works Khalifa mentions in his Divan. Although the core intent of this article is to introduce Khalifa’s largely unknown Divan, since some poems that present biographical material in the work coincide, these details are evaluated in light of the works that speak about the poet and new information is tried to be revealed by focusing on the problematic points of his biography. Ahdi’s writings do not conclusively state that he is from Diyarbakır, although many studies have suggested that he was born there. Khalifa Chalabi, often cited among the poets of Diyarbakır in many studies, identifies Tabriz as his homeland and city in his Divan. This article offers a selection of the poets’ previously unpublished Turkish poems.
