description With this study we examine the place of the foreigner in Greek literature; we observe how authors cross identity boundaries to deconstruct heroes in order to propose a new approach and respond to the needs of a changing society. We make reference to the works of R. Galanaki, Fires of Judah, ashes of Oedipus (Φωτιές του Ιούδα, στάχτες του Οιδίποδα, 2000), of G. Tsirbas, Victoria does not exist (Η Βικτώρια δεν υπάρχει, 2013) and G. Makridakis, All for the Good (Όλα για καλό, 2017), three very different writings – three complementary perspectives which intersect to constitute the specter of the evolution of the protagonist-narrator facing the stranger, others and oneself. The writers attempt to put forward a discursive identity shaped from the various stories specific to each character competing with formal history. The space in which constituent discourses demarcate a specific territory is gradually abolished. As a consequence the relationships of the heroes with their environment undergo changes which shape their personalities, make and rebuild the characters allowing an introspection to the point of questioning the protagonists – and therefore the author and, through him, the reader – and confront them with their own origins. Finally, the relationship with others and the relationship with oneself are not clearly distinguishable; dialogue is no longer found outside a self-sufficient and introvert identity, but in front of people who are invited to assume their own origins which, ultimately, are similar to those of others.
