Research on control strategy for neutral-point balance in three-level configurations for railway energy dispatching equipment

Energy dispatching equipment (EDE) utilizes converters in an AC-DC-AC topology to perform energy management functions including negative sequence, harmonic suppression, reactive power compensation, and active energy dispatching transfer for railway traction power supply. However, the use of three-le...

description Energy dispatching equipment (EDE) utilizes converters in an AC-DC-AC topology to perform energy management functions including negative sequence, harmonic suppression, reactive power compensation, and active energy dispatching transfer for railway traction power supply. However, the use of three-level converters in EDE leads to neutral-point imbalance due to the inherent topological limitation. Additionally, the diverse energy management functions of EDE, combined with out-of-phase voltage on both ends of the converters, cause arbitrary fluctuations of the power factor on both ends of the converters, exacerbating the neutral-point voltage imbalance deficiency. This paper proposes a control method for neutral-point voltage balance in single-phase three-level AC-DC-AC converters, designed for neutral-point balance control applicable to full conditions with arbitrary power factors on both ends of the converter, which is suitable for EDE application scenarios. This method was validated and confirmed to be effective and feasible through simulations and high-voltage experiments.
