Description
Summary:Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), a porous polymer having organic struts enclosed with clusters of metal ions, have shown an advantageous pathway for environmental remediation. Globally, the increased urbanization and industrialization lead to a lack of resources and the discharge of harmful/toxic chemicals like polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) into the environment. Advancing an innovative technology for detecting and capturing PAHs is essential for safe, and sustainable living. Subsequently, MOFs can recognize different types of PAHs by modifying/tuning the functional groups. The PAHs will get adsorbed on the surface of the framework by electrostatic interaction, ionic/covalent bonding, and van der Waals force. Additionally, it depends on reaction conditions like concentration, pH, temperature, and moisture content. In this review, we discussed the role of MOFs in the targeted removal of PAHs from food, soil, and water. The underlying mechanism of MOFs in the removal process was also explained in depth.
