Summary:This article investigates the relationship between Faulkner’s narrative technique in his polyphonic novel As I Lay Dying (1930) and the tools that filmmakers and directors can use through montage. Even though the novelist used to declare that he was not interested in film, this study reveals that novelistic polyphony and montage have much in common; and a comparison of the different narrative techniques emphasizes what those two forms of art share.
