Summary:During the second half of the xixth century in Colombia, the Catholic Church and the Conservative leaders were capable of adapting the requirements of a hostile public space and liberal journalism initiatives. Catholicism ideologists effectively passed to the publication of newspapers which became far more popular than those promoted by the liberalism elite offensive. The ecclesiastical hierarchy and conservative leaders established an organic alliance which ensures the outbreak and the sustainability of their weekly. In addition, conservative writers showed as a group of fairly well gifted ideologists for public debate.
