| description | This study aims to analyse the story of 'Mam and Zin', which illustrates the separation of two lovers as another side of the conflict between the good and evil. The story highlights an existential issue in the metaphysical and theological predicament that is considered as the conflict of 'evil' and 'good'. This philosophical dimension, which has not been given much attention so far has not been explained in terms of theological doctrines and philosophical enquires. The previous interpretation has emphasized more dimensions of the text (nationalism, Kurdishness, mysticism, romance, mythology and folkloric literature). This paper thus attempts to emphasize that 'Mam and Zin' not merely as a love story; however, it tackles on its core philosophical depiction of 'existential crisis' in the guise of the struggle of good with evil. The tragic love is the external form of this dilemma. Therefore, the text has been treated as an answer to the ancient questions of philosophy and theology: why does evil exist and how is it allowed to prevail in the world? The answer that is drawn from the text is that the existence of the evil is a prerequisite to the existence of the good. This notion puts the narrator's mind on a dilemma and it becomes a conscious challenge throughout the whole text. |
