In particular, they show how certain grand narratives stand in the way of our archaeological knowledge of gender and relations between men and women. Critically distancing ourselves from the idea of a “nature” that would underpin the sexual division of labour or from the myth of a primitive matriarchy is seen not only as a prerequisite for scientific knowledge of humanity’s past but also as a means of making a relevant contribution to current feminist issues. |
