Description
Summary:Elements, that create value in the knowledge production/transfer are the actors that takeparts in the links of ‘information chain'. These actors are ‘authors/re- searchers/scientists' and consequently their products as information resources, ‘publishers'/database producers, ‘distributors'/intermediary organizations and ‘information retrieval systems' which include libraries and other information centers, databases and search engines. The aim of this study is to examine analytically the information retrieval (IR) process, IR systems that give life to this process and the position of library insti- tution and other information centers as types of IR systems, in the context of ‘in- formation chain' concept which defınes both the actors and their functions in the process of knowledge production/transfer.
