description In the lowland areas of the Košická kotlina basin (eastern Slovakia), the occurrence of the mound-building mouse, Mus spicilegus, was confirmed in 2002-2024. The occurrence was confirmed by typical autumn-winter mounds (n = 747) with food reserves consisting of weed seeds and grasses at thirteen localities. Long-term research confirmed that mice prefer mainly fallows, cereal and maize fields with grasses and weeds, which was also in agreement with literature data.
