description The authors question the use of the term “non integrable” (multi-problem young people) in the French scientific literature about difficult adolescents. In the first part of the paper, they mention the genealogy of the term, defined at the intersection of the educational, juvenile Justice and health fields. They describe the social circle in which this term has appeared. The authors then show the diversity of terms used in the French language to name these young people: “limit case”, “heavy case”, “difficult adolescents”. In the second part of the text, they put forward one hypothesis about the reasons of the rise of this term. The authors suggest that child psychiatrist Flavigny would unintentionally stand at the origin of the rise of that term by having proposed the exclusion of the term “antisocial personality disorder”, and thus has opened the way of thinking about this pathology, by considering the social and institutional dimensions after having eluded the individual view.
