description Violence against women is recognized as a social fact, which has always been important in sociological studies, social policies and social workers. Above all, it is identified as a factor linked to cultural and social dimensions. Gender equality and combating violence is also recognized in Goal 5 of the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development. With the Covid-19 health emergency, violence against women has increased dramatically, due to the lockdown and regulatory provisions for social distancing, introduced as a remedy for contagion, have hindered the reporting and reception of victims. Many women who lost during quarantine were the most exposed, being forced to stay at home for long periods of time, but above all, becoming economically dependent on their partners. This work aims to analyse violence against women by analysing and comparing two different territorial contexts: Brazil and Italy. In the first, general part, gender-based violence will be defined. In the second part, the Brazilian context will be analysed, and in the third the Italian one, observing and examining, in both, violence against women, the actions of counteraction, focusing on culture. Finally, a comparison between the two examined territories will be made in the conclusions.
