description In modern German, singular noun phrases without any actualizer (type [ØN]sg) encode a non-discrete and undefined aim. In old high German, the marking of nominal categories is the object of current development, and the interpretation of a noun phrase reduced to its basis emerges from the context in which it is used. In the following paper, we will present the different possible semantic interpretations for those noun phrases in Otfrid's corpus (860), by analyzing which type of signs, among those that are co-present within the utterance, act as guides to the interpretative work of the receiver, through a distinction between actualizing and desactualizing contexts. In so doing, we will question the degree of grammaticalization of the opposition /discrete/~/non-discrete/ in this state of language.
