Description
Summary:We present here the strongly marked interest of France in Greece in the 19th century. We have drawn attention not only to painters, but also to 19th‑century French writers who were philhellenes, specially the Romantics. We present this situation in its historical background by examining the historical, cultural, and social environment in which will be made a methodical and parallel analysis of the elements that have contributed to the interest shown in Greece. The philhellene movement developed progressively in the 19th century in a specific economical and social reality. We justify the selection of that subject with respect to the era and to turn round to the whys and wherefores?
