description Among the various oscillation analysis methods in power systems, impedance-based and torque-based analysis methods have garnered significant attention. Both approaches describe system characteristics from a port-based perspective, making port-based oscillation analysis methods a valuable research focus. From this perspective, impedance-based and torque-based methods characterize systems using impedance ports and torque coefficient ports, respectively. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the current state of research on these two ports. First, the commonly used impedance port for grid-connected converters is examined, analyzing the characteristics of different types of impedance ports and summarizing their advantages in stability analysis of converter-based systems. Second, the torque coefficient port commonly used for grid-connected synchronous motors is studied, with an emphasis on explaining its physical significance and highlighting its superiority in engineering applications. Lastly, unified theories related to the two ports are introduced, identifying how ports exhibit distinct features in different scenarios, thus offering insights into the selection of port-based analysis methods.
