description This article looks back at the history of Haiti to present the construction of the notion of citizenship in the country and to demonstrate that, nowadays, this notion is not fully realized because the gap between the population and the state -sometimes qualified as "failed" - is too strong. It is even instrumentalized by gangs that claim to represent citizens. However, the social organization of the country is organized around numerous moments of sharing, mutual aid or expression of a "living together", based in particular on the great symbols and figures of the country. At a time when the separation between state and citizen is becoming increasingly apparent, especially with gang violence, a citizen-science experiment conducted by the authors illustrates this situation and reminds us of the importance of human and social sciences in the scientific process, for ethical reasons as well as to better carry out the project.
