Description
Summary:The essay in Spanish owes, in good mesure the ancient rethoric school called «Asian», which proposes a way of saying profuse and flowery, even though not entirely depending on it. In its contemporary forms, during the 20th century, the said essay has often adopted a «post-baroque» written way which co-exists with other modalities: humanism, mysticism, etc. A brief review of some texts of 20th century Spanish and Latinamerican essayists shows to what extent criticizing progress is recurrent and constitutes a way of proposing new forms of modernity which are not under any dictatorship of erroneus or incomplete modernizations. The Spanish essay accomplishes what I call the requiebro of the modernity, it endorses partly its program, and at the same time it condems its drifts and absolutisms, its superficial modernizations.
