| description | Background: It has recently been observed that the phenotype of patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) is changing. Objective: To identify parameters that allow the recognition of metabolic syndrome (MS) and insulin resistance (IR) in adult patients with T1D. Methods: We formed four groups based on the presence of MS and IR: MS + IR + (n = 5), MS + IR – (n = 3), MS – IR + (n = 5), and MS – IR – (n = 6). The receiver operating curves (ROC) evaluated the sensitivity and specificity for MS and peripheral IR detection. Results: Eight patients (42.10%) had MS, and 10 (52.6%) had IR. We observed differences between the groups in the ratio of triglycerides to HDL cholesterol, levels of glycosylated hemoglobin, and HDL-c. A triglycerides/HDL ratio > 2.82, and glycosylated hemoglobin level > 8.7% correlated best with the presence of MS and IR, respectively. Conclusion: The triglycerides/HDL ratio could predict MS in adult patients with T1D. Furthermore, the eGDR could detect IR without clinical features of MS in patients with T1D.
