Description
Summary:The novel Unchiul din Paris by Aureliu Busuioc, published in 1973, tells the story of a Moldovan man who, got lost in the world, in searching for his identity. This study aims to offer a new reading of the novel, which has not been widely discussed by critics, but is still important, especially in understanding the style of the writer Aureliu Busuioc. The purpose of this paper is to explore the meaning of the journey made by the main character and compare the attitudes of the protagonist and his grandson, Ricky. Furthermore, the research will look at the different narrative layers, the structure of the novel, the setting, and the artistic images used to describe the journey, the role of flashbacks, as well as the characters’ feelings in relation to the realities of life in 20th-century in Basarabia. The relevance of this research lies in the need to reread Busuioc’s novel as a way to better understand our national identity, through a return to our roots.
