Summary: | In this edition, we offer you an interview with Jules Brodeur, physician and toxicologist, who has been a leader in the field of industrial toxicology both in Québec and elsewhere in the world. He began his career in pharmacology, in the late 1950s, as a professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the Université de Montréal, where he spent several years engaged in basic research. In 1976, he became head of the Department of Occupational Medicine and Environmental Hygiene, which offered training for professionals in the fields of occupational medicine, industrial toxicology and environmental health.Professor Brodeur has published more than a hundred articles and nearly 150 scientic papers, but education has always been his core concern. He has supervised the work of more than 40 Master’s and Doctoral students, and nearly 110 students have earned the Graduate Diploma in Toxicology, a program he introduced in the department. In the course of his career he has received many awards and nominations, but the people closest to him all say that his kindness, enthusiasm and availability are the things they most remember about him. He retired a year ago, and PISTES decided to meet with him to ask him about his career path and his current thoughts on industrial toxicology. |
