Description
Summary:Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the spirochete bacterium Treponema pallidum, which can mask numerous ocular conditions and the diagnosis can be challenging. In recent years, there has been a reemergence of syphilis cases globally. Ocular manifestations may be the first signs. We report two cases of a rare ocular impairment, acute syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinitis. Fundoscopic syphilis changes can mimic numerous other conditions. The ophthalmologist should be aware of the wide range of ocular manifestations that syphilis can cause, to enable early diagnosis and avoid sequelae.
