description In this paper we study the features and functions of educational languages in high schools of two Madagascar’s cities. From a cross-analysis of three different data sets collected with school teachers and their students, we present a comparative study of linguistic representations of language practices and knowledge transfer methods in higher education establishments of Antananarivo and Mahajanga. The revealed heterogeneity of linguistic uses and believes/preconceived as well as their intrinsic challenges, denote a dynamic of educational inequality maintenance mirror Madagascar´s social disparities.
