Description
Summary:This paper deals with consonant groups occurring at both edges of words in Polish toponyms. Consonant sequences are normal and typical of very few languages of the world. Therefore, their position in a word may matter. Interestingly, Polish clusters are legendary as regards the number of consonants which can stand together in a number of words and which occur at the edges of words. Analyses of these consonant sequences are countless. However, few of them take into account place names in a comprehensive manner. In this analysis, I consider these consonant combinations, both initial and final, in great detail, with a view to considering one basic aim: are Polish toponyms in accordance with Polish phonotactics? This study is far from being statistic. It simply shows the status quo presented in an official document.
