| Summary: | The early 1760s witnessed the emergence of a series of significant writings of the Italian Enlightenment, so intertwined with each other that they still require the investigations of critics to unravel the attributions of texts and ideas - investigations now made easier by the publication of the abundant writings of Pietro Verri and Cesare Beccaria. There is still much to be fully understood, for example, the true relationship between the Verri brothers and Cesare Beccaria. In the meantime, a new French translation of Pietro Verri's Meditazioni sulla felicità finally does justice to the ideological and stylistic framework of the work, shedding light on Pietro Verri's journey of education and evolution. |
