Description
Summary:Museums, as institutions responsible for the safekeeping of cultural heritage, have the obligation to provide the appropriate conditions for the preservation of its collections. Therefore, the concepts of storage organization and maintenance emerge as a priority in museum conservation. After engaging in generic considerations on the role of storage facilities, as well as on the intrinsic specificities of textile collections, this article will explore the practical case of the textile storage facilities of the Museum of Aveiro. It will focus on essential aspects, such as the preparatory collection study, a needs diagnostic, and the listing of the criteria that should guide it in the choice of the adequate equipment. Finally, the article will reveal the elaboration of a set of rules for the proper packaging of the items and on the preparation of a good practice guide, utterly essential for the correct maintenance of all assets.
